               this isn’t NATURAL for keith – normally, he goes from 0 to I’d-die-for-you pretty quickly. but this galra pilot has been nothing but mysterious and cryptic. he has no reason to trust them yet. he knows that mistrust is the safest thing to feel…

                                         so why does he feel so guilty? 

                   this is a war, he reminds himself, people die for trusting the way you do.

❝What do I think?❞ Lance grinned slowly, slyly. ❝I think you’re a weird insomniac with bad choice in hair and personality.❞ Strangely enough, he felt the need to dampen his words, bumping his foot against Keith’s stomach and tossing him a small smile. He wasn’t sure why he felt compelled not to start an argument but he was pinning it on his tired feelings.

Wiggling his toes and tucking his arms beneath his head, Lance had the brief, delusional thought of wondering if Keith would pat his hair should his head be in the other’s lap. Woah, what the fuck? He thought. Since when did he want Keith to be the one comforting him? Not that he needed comfort, but he never said no to cuddling his friends. 

❝Careful,❞ Lance laughed, ❝I might just swoon if you keep saying such sweet things.❞ His eyes slipped shut, but he wasn’t about to fall asleep.

❝You swoon that easily?❞SNRK. ❝No w o n d e r you fall tail-end over elbow for every alien girl you meet.❞ 

               teasing words were punctuated by a gentle return nudge of elbow against knees. the jest in it was unmistakable; snide little smirk lighting his features competitively. it was always tit for tat with Lance–a gentle tug of war, lacking any real bite, each boy grappling for a taste of superiority over the other.

                          ❝Comfy?❞

               as SARDONIC as it sounded, it was more of an observation than a jab. lance’s features rarely relaxed; even relative motionlessness from him was something of a rarity. in a moment of HONESTY, keith found that he was comfortable as well, settling into the couch easily. restlessness had plagued him in the days it had been since they saw any real action. perhaps he ought to have been enjoying the chance to rest. 

                           who knew when they would see another chance like it.

 

Finally found a music player that I felt like suit my theme well enough thanks to @andysaid so there’s autoplay there now. It’s not terribly loud or anything, don’t worry!
